• World Day of Prayer – Friday March 1, at Maple View at 7:30pm. Come and be a part of a service prepared by the sisters of France. Refreshments to follow the service.

LOOKING AHEAD…

• Read a Thon Kids!! Please return forms & money by next Sunday, March 3 to either Sue Lebold, Ross Gerber or James Jantzi. Skating party: Saturday, March 16 at the St. Clements arena. Skating at 7:00pm. Awards at 8:00p.m.
• Easter Choir: for a couple of songs Easter Sunday morning. Welcome anyone who enjoys singing grade 6 to age 100 (but if you are 101 you can sing too!!) Experience is not necessary. See sheet on bulletin board in foyer to sign up. Rehearsal dates:March 7, 21, 28, at Maple View Church, 7:30 pm.
• MYF Dodgeball Tournament – Saturday, March 9. Please be at the church by 9:45. Cost is $10 per person lunch included.
• Sunday Evening Service – March 10, 7:30pm Come out and hear about the mission trip of one of our youth!  Nick Huber will be sharing on his recent trip to Guatemala.
• MYF Progressive Supper – The MYF is looking for volunteers to host a section of the progressive supper happening on Friday, March 22.
• Men’s Breakfast – Saturday, March 23, 9:00a.m at the church. Food provided by Schmidtsville. Harold Albrecht MP will be speaking “Living Your Faith In Public”.  Invite your friends and neighbours. RSVP to Mark A, Ross G or Terry L or call church office by March 18.

COMMUNITY EVENTS…

• Urgently Needed beginning February 28 and for 12 Thursdays mornings volunteers to assist with snack and meal preparation  and volunteers to assist with childcare at the ESL program for Low German Newcomers hosted by Poole Mennonite Church.  For more information please contact Lori Yantzi  ( loriejohn@sentex.ca) or call 519 662 4315.

• Hear Freedom’s Ring.  Come celebrate southern Ontario’s history in a musical journey along the Underground Railroad with tenor,Michael Toby. • Attention Jr. Youth, MYF to Adult. On Monday, March 11at 7pm at Wellesley Mennonite Church, The King’s Song, The Only Weapon  you Need will be performed by SPIRIT BORNE. Spirit Borne is the performing arts and discipleship expression of Quinte Youth For Christ/Youth Unlimited. This group is made up of 42 high school students.  Free will offering will be taken to cover the costs of the travelling team.  Light refreshments to follow. RSVP is appreciated to jodi@wellesleymennonite.ca to get a sense of numbers.
• March 16: Saturday at 8:30 am:  5th Annual Peace and Justice Community Breakfast at Steinman Mennonite Church.  This year’s theme is  “Why Climate Change is a Justice Issue”   The featured speaker will be Willard Metzger, Executive Director of Mennonite Church Canada and Representative to the UN Climate Change Forum.  Admission is by donation. Registration is required by March 11th, call 519-634-8311.

INFORMATION…

• Interested in becoming a member of Maple View Mennonite Church?  Talk to Pastor Brent about joining membership exploration group that would meet 2-3 times.
• Annual Heifer Sale raised $194,465. With cash donations the total for the day was over $205,000. The 121 donated heifers averaged just over $1,500 per head. Miscellaneous items, raised another $10,040. First fruit giving is certainly evident as the quality of the donated heifers was top-notch. Over the past 32 years, this generosity by the farm community has raised almost $4.5 million to support the work of MCC.

• Annual Hidden Acres Bowlathon– March 2.  If you would like to sponsor this event talk to Brad Brenneman
• VOLUNTEERS NEEDED BY MENNONITE DISASTER SERVICE! MDS Ontario is partnering with MDS New York in the rebuilding phase on Staten Island, NY, as a result of Hurricane Sandy, last fall.  Needed: short term volunteers (1 to 2 weeks) as well as long term leaders such as Project Director, Office Manager, Cooks and Crew Leaders to help people get back into their homes. MDS appreciates the volunteers that have already signed up, March is filled and Apr is filling quickly.  This is a long term response.  If interested please contact Jason Ecker, 519-562-8551 or jasonecker@hotmail.com for more information and scheduling.  Allow 3 weeks to process border crossing letters.  Check out the “MDS Sandy Report” video on the MDS website, http://www.mds.mennonite.net

• Family Day Open House at Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp- There is still some space remaining for  Monday, February 18,  from 10am-3:30pm – a fun, relaxing and FREE day with your family. Come enjoy many indoor and outdoor activities including sledding, skating, pretzel-making, crafts, floor hockey, a campfire and much more! Please bring your own outdoor equipment. Some activities are weather dependent. Light lunch provided at 12:00pm. Donations towards helping children come to camp are appreciated. If you still wish to attend please let us know by 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 by emailing info@hiddenacres.ca or calling (519) 625-8602.
• What About Joshua? MCEC invites you to a free public presentation by Gordon Matties from Canadian Mennonite University College. Thursday February 21, at 7:00 pm. The Book of Joshua has been used to support war, conquest, and genocide. In a time of religious justification for terrorism and counterterrorism, Joshua may well be a book for our Time’’’ – Gordon Matties.

• Jr. Youth Event – Friday, February 15 – Thrift Store Night! Meet at 6p.m. at the church or MCC Thrift Center in New Hamburg at 6:30p.m. Bring a few dollars for shopping, and friends! Pick up at 9:30p.m. at the church.

Join song leader Mark Diller Harder, pianist Charlene Nafziger and Menno Singers for an evening of spirited hymn singing. This hymn sing also begins the celebration of First Mennonite’s 200^th anniversary year. Suggested Donation: $10 – adult; $25 – family.

Friday evening: 7:45-10:15 p.m., & Saturday: 9:00-3:00.  This program is designed to enhance the personal counseling and preparation that pastors usually give to couples whom they are marrying.  It does not offer personal counseling, and it does not replace the work that pastors do to prepare couples for marriage. Registration brochures & info are on the bulletin board in the foyer.
• Are You Looking for an Exciting Camping Adventure? Brochures & registration forms have arrived from Hidden Acres Camp, Silver Lake Mennonite Camp, & Ontario Mennonite Music Camp. Also apply now to join the summer staff at Fraser Lake Camp & Glenbrook Day Camp. Brochures & registration forms are located on the bulletin boards in the foyer; Register Early!
