Thursday, September 26, 7:30 pm – Plan to Protect training for adults involved in ministry with children or youth at Maple View.  An interactive session based on Reducing the Risk video curriculum and Maple View’s abuse prevention policy.  Everyone working with children or youth is expected to take part in this training at least once every five years – not only to fulfill church insurance obligations, but as part of our commitment to ensure the safety of everyone involved in our ministries.

MYF – Friday September 27 –we will be pricing pies for the ABC festival. Be at the church by 7:30 and please bring a cooler. *Families with one youth make 4 pies, families with 2 or more youth make 6.

CHOIR MEMBERS:  There will not be a large Christmas presentation this year. However, periodically throughout the year we are looking for a choir/ensemble to sing 1-2 songs at certain services. The first is Thanksgiving, Oct. 13 and then Christmas Sunday, Dec. 22. Maple View Mennonite Church is hosting a LOVE & RESPECT VIDEO CONFERENCE on November 8 & 9. Love best motivates a woman and respect most powerfully motivates a man. Though we all need love and respect equally, the felt need differs during conflict, and this difference is as different as pink is from blue. Married couples and singles are all welcome to attend. First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, is celebrating its 200th birthday, and invites all to a service of celebration and reception on Sunday, September 29, at 2:30 PM, 800 King St. E, Kitchener. All singers are invited also to join the Homecoming Choir, rehearsing at 3 PM on Saturday, Sept 28, and Sunday at 1:30 PM,  prior to the service. “Death: Planning for End of Life Care”Thursday, October 10 – 7:00 p.m. Nithview Community Auditorium.  “Fairview, Parkwood, and Tri-County Mennonite Homes invite you to meet with Judy Nairn (Executive Director, Hospice of Waterloo Region) and Cathy Joy (Hospital Palliative Care Consultant, Waterloo Region) who will help us explore planning for end of life care – ensuring that our future health and personal care preferences are known should we become incapable of consenting to or refusing treatment of care. We hope you will join us in discussing this important matter! This session is provided at no cost to the participants. All are welcome! Interested in being part of a weekend mission trip to Manitoulin Island this fall?  Whether you are drawn to children’s ministry, co-leading a women’s mini-retreat, helping First Nations people with jobs around their homes or have other creative ideas for sharing God’s love, please talk to Paul and Bernice Albrecht or another member of the Missions Committee.  The committee expects to shape the trip based on the gifts and vision of the team that is going.

Would you like to donate money towards the VBS Play Centre Project?  Two Play Centre’s are being donated from Maple View Vacation Bible School to the Menno Homes project in Wellesley.  The structures were put together by the Grade 7 & 8 students and leaders from this past VBS. Alberta Floods:   MDS is active in Southern Alberta helping to muck out flooded homes.  We have teams in Medicine Hat, High River, and some in Calgary.  Day by day more home owners have been allowed to go home, and they are now facing the destruction and loss head on.  Volunteers are much needed immediately.  Limited RV parking and some accommodation may be available for volunteers.   Call the Alberta Volunteer Coordinator to volunteer at 587-216-6169 or the Winnipeg office at  866-261-1274.  Donations can be sent to the Winnipeg office 6A-1325 Markham Rd, Winnipeg, MB R3T 4J6

Shekinah:  Thanks to the MDS folks in Saskatchewan who responded quickly to MC Saskatchewan’s Camp Shekinah when they were flooded.  Volunteers worked together with camp staff to clean out, gut, and rebuild the facility to allow summer camp to begin on schedule.

Our 47th Annual Hidden Acres Chicken BBQ was a success this year with 1,080 meals and many ice cream cones served on a beautiful spring night, raising $7000 towards Hidden Acres summer camp programs. We could not do this without the many volunteers who help with this event and the many community members who attend, thank you! The 7th annual pie auction raised a record $3780 towards capital projects, with the top pie selling for $400! A big thank you to those who donated pies and to those who bid on them!
